About

Friedlander Furniture is a furniture design and build studio based in Brooklyn, New York on the Red Hook water front.

Friedlander Furniture seeks to design functional pieces of furniture with a dash of playfulness and cultural significance. Friedlander Furniture is driven by designing intergenerational pieces that become a functional part of your family.

Founded by Sam Friedlander who grew up in Seattle. His interest in furniture started when he studied architecture in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Mellon University and flourished while abroad at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) in Copenhagen.

In 2017, after working professionally in architecture for many years, Sam left to study at The Center For Furniture Craftsmanship's nine month comprehensive. Creating furniture makes him feel that he is connecting to the human scale, which he believes is the first step to understanding the built environment. Through countless hours of woodworking, Sam gained valuable insight into craft, design, ergonomics, material, and scale.
